Chris Moore
Chris Moore Makes 11 catches in 2025
Mon, Jan 12, 2026, 12:37 PM
Moore caught 11 of 23 targets for 207 yards and one touchdown while adding a nine-yard carry across 14 appearances during the 2025 regular season.
Analysis: Moore began the season on the practice squad but spent most of the season on the Commanders' active roster and saw a surprisingly high amount of usage due to the team's injuries at wide receiver. That usage didn't amount to much production, though. He'll be a free agent ahead of his age-33 season and will likely have to compete for a roster spot somewhere in training camp.
Jeremy McNichols
Jeremy McNichols Career year in 2025
Fri, Jan 9, 2026, 1:17 PM
McNichols rushed 44 times for 221 yards and a touchdown while catching 25 of 31 targets for 196 yards across 17 regular-season games in 2025.
Analysis: With Austin Ekeler (Achilles) sustaining a season-ending injury early into the Commanders' 2025 campaign, McNichols was thrust into the role of the team's primary pass-catching running back. The Boise State product performed well, recording a career-high 417 total yards while averaging 6.0 yards per touch. Set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, McNichols could draw interest from teams seeking a third-down back ahead of the 2026 season.
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey Sophomore campaign cut short
Fri, Jan 9, 2026, 1:10 PM
McCaffrey (collarbone) caught 11 of 15 targets for 203 yards and three touchdowns across nine regular-season games in 2025. Additionally, he recorded 769 kick return yards.
Analysis: The second-year pro from Rice had a terrific start to the 2025 season, catching eight of 10 targets for 179 yards and three touchdowns across the Commanders' first six games. McCaffrey also proved to be one of the best return specialists in the NFL, averaging a whopping 29.6 yards per kick return. He's expected to return from a broken collarbone by the start of the 2026 season and will likely play another depth role in Washington's receiving corps.
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks Sticking around Washington
Mon, Jan 5, 2026, 7:11 PM
The Commanders signed Brooks (undisclosed) to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Analysis: Brooks will stick around Washington after spending the 2025 campaign as a member of the practice squad, appearing in the team's Week 6 loss to the Bears, failing to record any stats over seven offensive snaps. The wide receiver also ended the year on the team's practice squad injured list with an undisclosed injury, but he now appears to be healthy ahead of the offseason. With the new deal, Brooks will get the chance to train with the Commanders during the team's offseason activities prior to the 2026 season.
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott Held to three yards in Week 18
Mon, Jan 5, 2026, 2:00 PM
Sinnott caught both of his targets for three yards in Sunday's 24-17 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: The 2024 second-round pick finishes his second NFL season with a 11-114-1 line on 13 targets. Sinnott played more than 50 percent of offensive snaps in each of the final four games, catching seven of nine targets for 73 yards during that stretch. The Commanders likely are in need of a new starting tight end with Zach Ertz recovering from an ACL tear and scheduled for free agency, but Sinnott hasn't shown much of anything to suggest he can be that player. There's still late-breakout argument, depending on Washington's offseason moves in the coming months.
Treylon Burks
Treylon Burks Ends season with quiet game
Mon, Jan 5, 2026, 1:56 PM
Burks caught two of four targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Burks worked as Washington's No. 3 receiver throughout much of the second half of the season, ultimately catching just 10 of 22 targets for 130 yards and a touchdown in eight games. The 2022 first-round pick is scheduled for unrestricted free agency this offseason.
Josh Johnson
Josh Johnson Passable in win
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 10:54 PM
Johnson completed 14 of 22 passes for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Eagles. He added nine rushes for 45 yards with an additional score and a lost fumble.
Analysis: Johnson drew his second consecutive start in the absence of both Jayden Daniels (elbow) and Marcus Mariota (hand). He effectively managed the offense for most of the game and orchestrated a pair of touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, which he capped off with a two-yard passing score and a one-yard rushing touchdown, to give the Commanders the win. Johnson will become a free agent this offseason, though retirement is also a possibility as he just concluded his 11th season and is set to turn 40 in May.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Jacory Croskey-Merritt Can't get going in Week 18
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 10:12 PM
Croskey-Merritt recorded 13 rushes for 29 yards in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Croskey-Merritt saw eight of his 13 carries on the Commanders' opening possession, though he was likely phased out of the offense from there after picking up only five total yards. This performance was indicative of an up-and-down rookie season for Croskey-Merritt, as he reached at least 95 rushing yards in two of his final six games but failed to reach 35 yards on the ground in the other four. The Commanders are a candidate to add a running back either in free agency or the draft this offseason, but Croskey-Merritt is likely to have a role in 2026.
Chris Rodriguez
Chris Rodriguez Tallies sixth TD
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 9:59 PM
Rodriguez rushed the ball 16 times for 65 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Eagles. He added one reception on one target for 18 yards.
Analysis: Jacory Croskey-Merritt was the starting running back, though Rodriguez ultimately turned out to lead the backfield in touches. Rodriguez was also the more effective back, logging two rushes of more than 10 yards in addition to a one-yard touchdown plunge midway through the second quarter. The effort concluded Rodriguez's best season of his career, as he recorded exactly 500 rushing yards with six scores across 13 games. He'll be a restricted free agent this offseason, meaning there's a strong chance he returns as backfield depth for Washington again in 2026.
Terry McLaurin
Terry McLaurin Four catches in season finale
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 9:30 PM
McLaurin recorded four receptions on four targets for 57 yards in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: McLaurin was the only pass catcher to get anything going for the Commanders, as Josh Johnson managed just 131 passing yards. McLaurin made a long catch of 25 yards early in the second quarter, though he also drew four defensive penalties, two of which helped keep touchdown drives alive. McLaurin endured a tough 2025 season due to his own struggles to stay on the field, as well as Jayden Daniels (elbow) missing a significant portion of the year. However, McLaurin should have a strong chance to bounce back in 2026, as he had logged five consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards entering the current campaign.
Deebo Samuel
Deebo Samuel Two catches in victory
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 9:19 PM
Samuel caught two of five targets for 20 yards and rushed twice for one yard in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Samuel was held to two catches for the second straight week while his 20 receiving yards were his fewest since Week 8. The wide receiver has now completed his regular season having caught 72 of 99 targets for 727 yards and five touchdowns while also turning 17 carries into 75 yards and a score over 16 contests. Samuel will enter the offseason as a free agent, and he proved he's still got plenty left in the tank, recording his most receptions since the 2021 campaign.
River Cracraft
River Cracraft Elevated for Sunday
Sat, Jan 3, 2026, 3:38 PM
The Commanders elevated Cracraft from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Analysis: Cracraft has been elevated for consecutive weeks, finishing Christmas Day's loss against the Cowboys with just one snap on the special-teams unit. With Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, Treylon Burks and Chris Moore all healthy and active, Cracraft is likely in line to see the same minimal special-teams snap share in Sunday's game.
Treylon Burks
Treylon Burks Set to play Sunday
Fri, Jan 2, 2026, 3:25 PM
Burks (illness) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's contest in Philadelphia, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Burks showed up Thursday as a non-participant due to an illness, but his return to all activity one day later sets him up to be available to the Commanders offense this weekend. While working with No. 3 QB Josh Johnson last Thursday against the Cowboys, Burks played 91 percent of the snaps but was targeted just twice, hauling in one of them for 11 yards. Burks likely will have a similar role Sunday working alongside top WRs Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel and Johnson under center in place of Marcus Mariota (right hand/quadriceps).
Marcus Mariota
Marcus Mariota Ruled out
Fri, Jan 2, 2026, 11:24 AM
Mariota (hand/quad) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Philadelphia, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Josh Johnson will start for a second straight week. There's been no indication that Mariota's injury will be a problem this offseason, and he's been a good fit in Kliff Kingsbury's offense as the backup to Jayden Daniels (elbow). Still, there's some chance Mariota doesn't return to Washington, as he's currently on a one-year contract and thus can become an unrestricted free agent in March.
Josh Johnson
Josh Johnson Named as Week 18 starter
Fri, Jan 2, 2026, 11:21 AM
Johnson will start Sunday's game against the Eagles, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Commanders coach Dan Quinn named Johnson as his Week 18 starter Friday, ruling out Marcus Mariota (hand) for a second straight week. Washington also will be missing LT Laremy Tunsil (oblique) against an Eagles team that's expected to rest many starters.
Treylon Burks
Treylon Burks Misses practice Thursday
Thu, Jan 1, 2026, 3:42 PM
Burks (illness) did not practice Thursday.
Analysis: Burks wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, an indication that his illness is a new development. Unless he's able to resume practicing in full Friday, it appears that Burks will be assigned an injury designation for Washington's season finale against the Eagles on Sunday, for which third-string quarterback Josh Johnson is trending toward another start.
Marcus Mariota
Marcus Mariota Misses another practice
Thu, Jan 1, 2026, 3:22 PM
Mariota (hand) did not practice Thursday.
Analysis: Mariota is considered doubtful for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Eagles, so it's unsurprising to see him once again listed as a non-participant. The expectation is that Washington will roll with Josh Johnson under center versus Philadelphia on Sunday.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Jacory Croskey-Merritt Full practice Thursday
Thu, Jan 1, 2026, 3:18 PM
Croskey-Merritt (illness) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Croskey-Merritt missed practice Wednesday due to an illness, but he appears to have already returned to full health. He and Chris Rodriguez look positioned to split backfield reps again during Sunday's regular-season finale against the Eagles. With Rodriguez sidelined by illness himself in Week 17, Croskey-Merritt managed to rush for 105 yards and two touchdown on just 11 carries, momentum that could result in him seeing a larger share of the backfield workload versus Philadelphia.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Jacory Croskey-Merritt DNP due to illness
Wed, Dec 31, 2025, 3:23 PM
Croskey-Merritt didn't practice Wednesday due to an illness.
Analysis: Croskey-Merritt paced the Commanders backfield in place of an ill Chris Rodriguez last Thursday versus the Cowboys, taking 11 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Their fates have switched this week, though, as Rodriguez isn't listed on the injury report at all. As such, Rodriguez seems poised to take back a majority share of Washington's RB reps this Sunday in Philadelphia, even if Croskey-Merritt is well enough to play.
Marcus Mariota
Marcus Mariota Not practicing, considered doubtful
Wed, Dec 31, 2025, 3:18 PM
Mariota (hand/quad) didn't practice Wednesday and remains a "long shot" for Sunday's game against Philadelphia, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: The term 'long shot' comes directly from coach Dan Quinn, who is preparing his team for another week with QB Josh Johnson as the starter.
